Twickenham tours home of rugby.
Twickenham Tour is a chauffeur-driven
visit to the home of England rugby at Whitton Road, Twickenham TW2 7BA, roughly
45 minutes to an hour from central London depending on traffic. The
ground has carried the name Allianz Stadium since 1 September 2024,
though the town, the station and every supporter still call the fixture a trip
to Twickenham.
Two attractions sit on the same site.
Guided stadium tours run about 75 minutes and take you through the Rose
and Poppy Gates, the Royal Box, the England Changing Room, down the Players’
Tunnel and out to pitchside. The World Rugby Museum occupies the South Stand
and holds the world’s leading collection of rugby memorabilia, including the
Calcutta Cup. Allow at least two hours for both, and buy tickets online
beforehand since walk-up availability is limited.
Practical details shape the day more than
most attractions. Tours depart from the England Rugby Store at the south-west
corner, the site closes on Mondays, and there is no cloakroom or left
luggage anywhere in the stadium. Taxis and private cars use the turning
circle at the south-east corner, though that closes on match and event days
when the whole area changes.
TWICKENHAM, THE HOME OF ENGLAND RUGBY
The Rugby Football Union bought this
land in 1907, when it grew market vegetables, which is why supporters still
call the ground the Cabbage Patch. The first match came in 1909, the first
international against Wales in 1910, and England won it.
Capacity now runs to roughly 82,000,
making this the largest stadium in the world built solely for rugby union. Six
Nations Saturdays, autumn internationals, the Premiership final and the
Harlequins Big Game all fill it, and concerts take the summer dates. On the
other 300 days of the year the building opens for tours, which is when you get
to walk the parts the cameras never show.

WHAT THE STADIUM TOUR COVERS
Guides are volunteers, most of them
lifelong rugby people, and each brings a different set of stories to the same
route. The standard tour runs about 75 minutes:
•
Rose
and Poppy Gates, the memorial entrance honouring
players who died in the world wars.
•
The
Royal Box, where you sit in the seats used for
presentations after finals.
•
The
England Changing Room, the highlight for most
visitors, with the matchday routines explained peg by peg.
•
The
Players’ Tunnel, walked at your own pace towards
the light at the end.
•
Pitchside, standing at the touchline with the stands rising on all four
sides.
Photography is welcome throughout.
Bags may be searched on arrival, and since no cloakroom exists, anything bulky
has to stay in the car. Tour times vary with events in the building, so the
ticket you hold sets the shape of the day.

Yes. The ground was renamed Allianz Stadium on 1 September 2024 under a naming rights deal, though it stands in Twickenham and older vouchers remain valid. Both names refer to the same venue.
About 75 minutes for the guided route. Add the World Rugby Museum and you should allow at least two hours on site, longer if children use the interactive zone.
The Rose and Poppy Gates, the Royal Box, the England Changing Room, the Players’ Tunnel and pitchside, followed by the museum. The changing room is the part most visitors remember.
Yes. Tickets are sold online ahead of the visit, and same-day availability goes through the museum rather than the door. Send us your confirmed slot and we set the pickup around it.
Combined tour and museum gift packages run about £64 for two adults and £86 for a family of four, with an automatic family discount on standard bookings. Legends Tours led by an England international cost £149.50 per person.
No. Regular closures fall on Mondays, Easter Sunday, Christmas Eve to Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, and tour times shift on match and event days.
Not at the stadium. There is no cloakroom or left luggage facility, and bags may be searched on arrival, so anything bulky stays in the car with your chauffeur.
Very. Under 5s enter free once an adult signs the insurance disclaimer, family discounts apply from one adult and two children, and the Play Rugby Interactive Zone gives them something to do beyond looking at cabinets.
