title of the show village of the wolds. Upper and Lower Slaughter, linked by a
footpath along the River Eye, stay calm even in August because coaches
physically cannot enter. Between all of them run the stops that turn
sightseeing into a proper day out.
Distance, Timing and the Practical Day
Practicalities first: the western
villages sit 90 to 120 minutes from central London depending on your start
point and the M40 or M4 approach, so an 8:00 departure buys a full
unhurried day. Expect five to six hours in the region itself, three or four
villages visited properly rather than six glimpsed, and a return to London in
time for dinner. Guests based in Oxford or Bath start closer and see more.
Walking stays optional throughout. The
car sets you down in each village centre rather than a distant coach park,
follows you to the far end of a high street if you’d rather not double back,
and waits while you wander a riverside path. That flexibility suits mixed
